Zenyatta Wins Apple Blossom Invitational, Still Updefeated
A few days ago, Friday, the Apple Blossom Invitational (Grade 1) was run at the Oaklawn Park and Zenyatta was there in prime form. Could it be because Rachel Alexandra wasn’t in the house? Maybe. Sadly, the duel we all hoped for wasn’t to be had, but Zenyatta didn’t mind as she flew by the competition and won the race.
If you wanted to cash in on Zenyatta, now 16-0, you would need to have wagered a ton of cash. Zenyatta paid out $2.10 win, $2 place and show. As an interesting side note, the only reason she paid $2.10 for the win was because Oaklawn Park had to pay at least something. As you might expect, everyone was on Zenyatta and the track lost about $173,000 on the race.
I don’t think we’ll get to see the match-up between 2009 horse of the year Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta. Rachel finished second at Fair Grounds last month and I think there’s too much pressure and build up for this race to happen. We shall see.
